In the last few years, I’ve traveled to Africa twice—Ghana in 2021 and Kenya in 2022. I fell in love with West African food during my time in Ghana, and I’ve been thinking about exploring more of the region in the future. Come with me as I get my first taste of Nigerian food in Tampa, Florida!

In this video, I’m visiting TFK African Restaurant in Tampa to meet Janet, an amazing cook from Nigeria who would be preparing several favorites from her country. The restaurant is beautiful and feels like West Africa, with a lot of art from the region on the walls.

TFK AFRICAN RESTAURANT: At this Nigerian restaurant, Janet prepared a Nigerian feast, beginning with appetizers (yoyo, fried shrimp, and yam with pepper sauce), and ending with palm wine, alomo bitters, abula, fufu, efo, egusi, and okro. Each dish was unique, with its own flavors and textures, and having them with the fufu took me back to my time in West Africa. Janet was even impressed with my eating skills!
