Modern British Railway Signalling - Explained!

Описание к видео Modern British Railway Signalling - Explained!

This unofficial video explains the system of modern 'colour light' railway signals used in the United Kingdom. Railway signalling can be very complex, and is different all around the world. This video describes 'four aspect' signalling (sometimes referred to as 'seven aspect,' if you count the flashing yellows) as used on most main lines in the UK. It's important to note that some areas use only two or three aspect signalling, which is simpler than what is depicted here. Many of the images I have used in this video have been altered to show different aspects for demonstration purposes - it is likely that not all of the specific signals photographed would be able to show all those aspects, particularly those relating to junctions. I have included only common aspects, and am not attempting to cover all elements of British signalling. If you want to learn more about this topic I recommend this excellent website: http://www.railsigns.uk/home.html

This video is part of a series I am making about different systems around the world, you can view the full list here:    • Railway Signalling Explainers

A brief section of this video covers 'banner repeaters.' A similar but more complex system is used in Victoria, Australia, in conjunction with more complicated signals, and you can watch my video about it here:    • Victorian Banner Indicators - Explained!

Please note that I have made this video for hobby purposes only, and while all attempts have been made to provide accurate information, I am not an expert, and not a railway employee. I also live in the southern hemisphere, so you can blame any mistakes on that!
