Mother Recipes is one of the well-known eateries in our home vaddo, whose fame has spread well beyond Benaulim, South Goa. Tourists and locals alike crowd this place at lunch time, run by the sweet Gudekar family who are serving the recipes cooked by their mother, Mohini Gudekar

We have eaten at Mother Recipes many times and have come again today at the request of some of our viewers. You too can let us know about your favourite places to eat in Goa. If the food is tasty, we'll feature the place on our channel.
Mother Recipes is located at the junction of Benaulim Beach road and Margao-Varca road in Pequeno Pulvaddo, #Benaulim, South Goa. This junction is the old Papai’s Corner crossing. Mother Recipes is 4 minutes by road from Benaulim’s Maria Hall crossing and 8 minutes from #Margao railway station on the Kharebandh side of Margao-Varca road. You will know you have reached the junction because of the crowd outside Mother Recipes at lunch time. We are not exaggerating. There is a constant stream of people entering this place. After parking, we too joined the line waiting for a table.
Despite having two kitchens and plenty of staff continually serving food, the waiting crowd only keeps growing at Mother Recipes. Over and above that, they are also running a parcel counter.
While we waited, we had refreshing kokum and lime sodas and thought about what to have for lunch. Today we’ll be having lepo (sole fish) and chonak (sea perch/sea bass) thalis with some shellfish (tisri) or prawns (sungta) on the side.
The waiting crowd has grown further since we arrived. People keep coming in and going out, yet the line only becomes longer.
Waiting for one’s lunch to arrive is tough here because of the constant aromas of frying fish and seafood wafting out of the kitchens. The whole kitchen is filled with the fragrance of fried fish.
Depending on the catch of the day, you can have visvon (kingfish), chonak (sea perch/sea bass), or modso (lemon fish) thalis at Rs 250 each, bangdo (mackerel), lepo (sole), tarle (sardines), doddyaro (croaker) or muddoshi (ladyfish); all Rs 120 each, bombil (Rs 150), vellio (Rs 100) and rechead bangdo Rs 180.
The veg thali is Rs 120 and you can order plates of potato, brinjal, breadfruit and banana rawa fry.
All these fish can be ordered as separate fried plates (Rs 70-350), besides seafood like crab sukha (Rs 150), prawns (sungta) fry (Rs 250), squids chilli (Rs 150) and tisri (Rs 150) plates.
As we head out, we are stunned to see the line of those waiting to eat has reached the opposite side of the road. Hope that like us, they will enjoy their afternoon siesta soon.
Mother Recipes is open from 7.30 am to 4 pm, beginning with breakfast that goes on till about 11-11.30 am. Then the lunch service begins, till 4 pm and that’s it for the day. Mother Recipes closes on alternate Sundays, so do call ahead (Contact: +917030464180, 9226430376, 9823037479) and check if planning to visit on a Sunday.
