The Egyptian Goddesses Isis and Nephthys were sisters and wives of their brother Osiris. When their brother Set became jealous of Osiris, he sealed Osiris in a specially made box and cast it away in a river that carried it to sea.

Ancient Egyptian texts called “Lamentations of Isis and Nephthys” have survived. In them the grieving sisters lament the loss of Osiris.

This music imagines the goddesses singing their lamentations, one after another, until they both join in a duet.

They are accompanied by ancient harp, wooden flute, finger cymbals, tambourine and systrum. Although no authentic ancient Egyptian music has survived to today, these instruments are often depicted in the paintings and murals of the time.

The music was composed and recorded at the Shelter of Clear Light Recording Studio in Los Angeles in July, 2018.

“Egyptian Goddess Tefnut’s Magic Rain Spell” is a musical evocation of a secret ritual that invoked the goddess to bring rain to the land.

The spell begins with the sounds of thunder and rain, then the priests intone the name “Tefnut.” As the spell unfolds, gradually the cosmic forces of the sky and earth join in with the priests, and over the course of the music humans, gods, and deep forces of heaven and earth unite. The successful spell insures the blessing of the coming of rain.

Tefnut was the ancient Egyptian goddess of rain, moisture and dew. Daughter of the solar god Ra-Atum, she married her brother Shu, and was the mother of the sky god Nut and Geb the earth god.

The ancient cities of Heliopolis and Leontopolis were primary centers of worship of Tefnut. Some scholars believe that the temples built to her only allowed priestesses and the pharaoh to enter after undergoing secret rituals of purification in a deep stone pool.
