Fremantle CAT Last Day of Operations

On Saturday the 30th of September 2023, the Fremantle CAT saw its last day of operation after 26 years, due to the City of Fremantle no longer providing funding for the service, and Transperth not willing to continue paying for it themselves. This is a continuation of the previous cuts they made to the service with the withdrawal of the Red CAT service in 2020, as well as halving the frequency of the Blue CAT. Also, the fleet used on the Fremantle CAT consists of gas bus midis which are currently in the process of being withdrawn, so a new fleet at this time would also be very costly for a service which isn't deemed that important. It is now replaced by route 532, which runs the entire length of South Terrace where the Fremantle Blue CAT previously ran, but not the Marine Terrace section which was covered on the northbound section. Many short services were introduced which terminate on Hampton Road (to be explored in the next video), on top of the already existing services.

The last day of operation was a significant time for both the Fremantle community and bus enthusiasts, which this iconic service and its orange buses being permanently removed. Many people gathered in Fremantle on the day to explore all the stops before they are remove and ride on the last few loops.
