High Voltage Event Special Services

Ok here it is, a delayed video, but it's here! And oh is it a long one!

On Sunday the 7th of May 2023, a rock concert event called 'High Voltage' took place in the Fremantle CBD. Attendance was expected to me massive after the 2020 'Highway to Hell' event brought tens of thousands of people. Transperth prepared for this by increasing train frequency on all lines except the Armadale, and running 6-car Airport Line trains express between Redcliffe and Perth and then express to FREMANTLE. This was definitely a very special occasion which such a crazy express pattern which will likely be never seen again, so I had to film the full journey, but that made this video very long.

On top of the train services, special event bus route 666 operated a shuttle in Fremantle to get people from the station closer to the event. This service was operated almost exclusively by articulated buses departing almost every minute! Route 667 provided a fast connection to Fremantle for southern residents operating almost fully express from Murdoch Station to Fremantle. There were also countless normal route deviations throughout Fremantle, but I did not film these as there were just too many and the video is already massive.

All these services were very underutilised. Attendance to the event was minimal; much, much lower than the 2020 event. 6-car express trains ran with a maximum of only around twenty to thirty people towards the event, and a little more away from it afterwards. All articulated buses were almost fully empty with downwards of FIVE people on each service. Therefore, this was a crazily overplanned event from Transperth, but great for filming all the different empty services!
