Southern Pacific 4449: The Mainline Comeback

In January of 2013, Southern Pacific steam locomotive #4449 became cold and silent temporarily in order to begin the 15 year FRA rebuild and boiler re-certification. In June of 2017; after five long years of negotiations, awaiting the faithful day, blood, sweat and tears, one of the most famous steam locomotives let her sounds be known to the pacific northwest once again as it takes to the rails for a two-day excursion from Portland to the Bend and return!

Northwest Daylight Productions was there to capture both days of mainline steam action along the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway's Columbia River (Fallbridge) and Oregon Trunk Subdivisions. Also included is the history of the locomotive, an in-depth look at the 15-car train, and BNSF & Amtrak traffic filmed along the right-of-way.
