शालिनी शेखावत राजस्थान के जयपुर ज़िले की रहने वाली है उन्होंने बेहद विषम परिस्थियों में रहकर UPSC ISS AIR 8 तक के सफर को तय किया है। शालिनी जी ने अपना ग्रेजुएशन जयपुर से किया इसके बाद IIT Bombay से Applied statistics में master's complete किया और उनका campus placement हो गया। जॉब करने के दौरान ही शालिनी जी की शादी हो गई। उनकी ससुराल में सभी लोग बड़े सरकारी पदो पर थे। शालिनी जी की mother- in-law ने शालिनी जी को upsc exam देने के लिए प्रेरित किया। शालिनी जी ने अपनी जॉब छोड़कर जयपुर में ही एक कोचिंग ज्वाइन कर ली और UPSC की तैयारी शुरू कर दी। इसी बीच उन्हें एक बुरी ख़बर मिली कि उनके बड़े भाई को कैंसर है। इस ख़बर ने शालिनी जी को अंदर तक तोड़ कर रख दिया। काफ़ी इलाज के बाद भी उनके भाई सही नहीं हो पाए , लगातार शालिनी जी भाई की बिमारी के कारण मानसिक तनाव को झेलती रही। इसके बावजूद उन्होंने 2017 के upsc exam दिए, इसी बीच उनके भाई लम्बी बीमारी के बाद दुनिया से चले गए। भाई की मृत्यु होने के बाद शालिनी जी और उनका पूरा परिवार भावनात्मक रूप से टूट गया। शालिनी जी को उनके भाई के द्वारा कहे शब्दों ने एक बार फिर से उसी उत्साह से भर दिया, उनके भाई के वो शब्द थे " शालिनी तू कर लेगी ". एक बार फिर से अपने पूरे जोश के साथ upsc की तैयारी में लग गई। 2018 , 2019 और फिर 2020 के अपने प्रयासों में शालिनी जी असफल रही। चार बार एग्जाम देने के बाद भी कोई सफ़लता ना मिलने के कारण शालिनी जी को निराशा ने घेर लिया। ऐसे समय में उनके पति ने उनका उत्साह बढ़या, बढ़े आत्मविश्वास के साथ शालिनी जी ने अपने आख़री एटेम्पट में 2022 में UPSC ISS में 8 वी रैंक हासिल करके अपने सपने को साकार किया। इस पूरे सफ़र में शालिनी जी ने बहुत सारे उतार चढ़ाव देखे , जिसमे वो कई बार भावनात्मक रूप से टूटी है लेकिन ऐसे समय में शालिनी जी को उनके परिवार का साथ मिला। शालिनी जी का मानना है के UPSC का सफ़र उस वक़्त और आसान हो जाता है जब आपको ये पता हो के आपको ये क्यों करना है।
