Japan's Abe welcomed by China's Li with honour guard ceremony in Beijing

(26 Oct 2018) Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was welcomed by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang in Beijing on Friday.
    
Later in the day, the Japanese leader was due to meet President Xi Jinping.
Before departing Tokyo, Abe said he would stress the importance of strengthening a free and fair trading system.
Japan has been targeted by US tariffs under President Donald Trump, though less so than China.
It is the first time a Japanese prime minister is making an official visit to China for bilateral talks since late 2011.
Both countries are trying to repair ties damaged by disputes over territory, military expansion in the Pacific and World War II history.
