Whether you just received a multiple sclerosis diagnosis or have been previously diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, on a multiple sclerosis drug treatment plan, treating multiple sclerosis through HSCT or through diet changes exercise is extremely important and should also be in your toolbox for dealing with your multiple sclerosis diagnosis. Live your life by design and NOT BY DIAGNOSIS.

If your knees are locked straight when you walk, TODAY’S EXERCISE IS FOR YOU.

To reduce that extensor spasticity, we need to improve KNEE FLEXION (bending).

The of the major driver for KNEE FLEXION is the hamstrings.

A TON of Gymmers who experience extensor spasticity, circumduction gait, knee kiss gait, or scissor gait can greatly benefit from strengthening and improving neurologic communication to these muscles of the hamstring: semimembranosus, semitendinosus, biceps femoris

FUN FACT: Weakness in the hamstring can increase your susceptibility to spasticity and knee pain.

As you focus on this exercise today these things are VITAL to your success:

1. Keep blades down, abs in
2. Keep you PELVIS TUCKED / LOW BACK IN CONTACT WITH FLOOR – arching your back will make this exercise super hard

3. Use a range of motion (ROM) that your brain is capable of- don’t try to force feed lifting your knee higher or sliding your foot back by arching your back, tensing your neck, or shrugging your shoulders (this is called “compensation”).

4. ***SERIOUSLY- Lifting your knee 1 inch (2.5 cm) off the floor with quality movement, good isometric hold, and NO COMPENSATION will produce better results than straining to lift your knee higher or sliding your foot back- QUALITY over quantity
