During World War II Loch Ryan just north of Stranraer was an essential base both for shipping and for the military. Today the new Rhins of Galloway Coast Path follows the coast of the Loch as passes many fascinating sites such as Wig Bay where once 170 flying boats were based.

A big thank you to Dumfries and Galloway Council museum service, Stranraer Museum for the historical photos used in this video.

The Rhins of Galloway Coast Path is a new 83 mile circular walking route. When complete you will be able to experience all the stunning scenery of Scotland’s south west coast from the windswept cliffs of the Mull of Galloway to the sheltered waters of Loch Ryan.
