Part 1: Stranraer to Cairnryan.
The Loch Ryan Coastal Path is the final part of the extended Mull of Galloway Trail. It ends at Glenapp Church. The Loch Ryan Coastal Path initially follows the shores of Loch Ryan from Stranraer to Cairnryan. The path then ascends into Glenapp and ends at Glenapp Church. This walk takes in both Dumfries & Galloway and Southern Ayrshire – length 12 miles

The Loch Ryan Coastal Path starts at the Visit Scotland Information Centre (it closed now) near the harbour at Stranraer and follows the coast line all the way to the far end of Cairnryan.

The path then ascends fairly steeply but on a good surface to reach the Taxing Stane and the remains of WW11 gun emplacements. There are excellent views of the North Rhins coastline and Ailsa Craig along the way.

The path continues with some steep ups and downs but with no undue difficulties to the delightful Glenapp Church.

There is a bus service back to Stranraer approximately every two hours. Alternatively, you may wish to take the bus from Stranraer and do the walk in reverse.

This walk is often combined with the Mull of Galloway Trail from Stranraer to the Mull of Galloway and provides an opportunity for a 36 mile, multi-day walk with the likes of Portpatrick or Stranraer making an ideal base.
