Blepharospasm is an involuntary forceful closure or spasm of the eyelids. It is not directly involved in vision, but since the patient is not able to open his eyes, vision becomes involved indirectly. Usually, it starts as a simple involuntary blinking of lids occasionally. Later, episodic closure of the lids develops. Gradually, the frequency of the episodes increases, and the interval between two episodes decreases.

The main reason for this condition is considered to be the dysfunction of basal ganglia and it deranges the functioning of the trigeminal system and the seventh cranial nerve.

According to ayurveda, the condition is due to Vata predominance. The vitiated Vata in turn deranges the functions of the lid. there are various methods to treat this condition. Simple ophthalmic medication alone will not work out. Methods that act upon the CNS is absolutely necessary.
