Everyone goes through their own journey of discovering what self care truly means to them. Charlotte Cho, founder of Then I Met You, shares her journey of self love and renewal, and why making time for yourself – even if it's just taking 15 minutes out of your day for "me" time – is so important in maintaining your emotional well-being.

“I never knew motherhood would be so difficult. My pregnancy and delivery was so smooth, I figured I would just be in mommy bliss. But then, the days after I got home from the hospital, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I was not mentally and physically prepared for the changes to come. I was extremely overwhelmed, exhausted and emotional every day. She wouldn’t latch and the lactation consultant only made me feel worse. Pumping felt like existential dread. I then had sleepless, anxiety-filled nights, going down dark holes of googling all the things that could possibly happen to a newborn. By chance, my friend from college was becoming licensed to be a postpartum doula, and she became my support system, helping me identify that I had postpartum anxiety. I felt ashamed. When I talked to my friends about it, I was shocked when they told me they experienced very similar things. It was so much more common than I thought, but everyone kept silent. They also were in a dark place for a few months, and that they had to find some sort of way to cope. One treated herself to a boba every day. Others went on long walks.
.
For me, I also had to find a way to cope. Self care became a whole new meaning for me. My 15 minutes would be using a mask and then indulge in a long bath listening to my fav podcast. It was just that 15 minutes of “me” time in my bathroom with my skin care ritual that got me to feel like myself again. Perhaps that’s why I felt so determined to launch our new Rosé Resurfacing Facial Mask. My way of encouraging everyone to always make time for yourself.
.
One of the principles of building deeper connections is to be vulnerable, so I felt encouraged to take the time to tell my story. I wanted to help normalize just how difficult the postpartum journey is. I also want to help remind others that are going through their own changes and personal journey, just how important 15 minutes of “me” time can be for your mental health. Thanks for listening and thanks to the Then I Met You team for supporting this initiative." - @charlottejcho
