Zaheer-ud-Din Muhammad Babar, commonly known as Babur, was the founder of the Mughal Empire in India. He was born on February 14, 1483, in Andijan, in present-day Uzbekistan. Babur belonged to the Timurid dynasty and was a direct descendant of Timur (Tamerlane) on his father's side, and Genghis Khan on his mother's side, giving him a powerful and prestigious lineage.

Babur's early life was marked by a series of struggles and military campaigns to establish his authority in Central Asia. In 1504, he inherited the throne of Fergana at the young age of 12 but was soon ousted from his kingdom. Over the next two decades, Babur wandered through various parts of Central Asia, facing both victories and defeats in his quest for power.

In 1526, Babur achieved a significant victory at the Battle of Panipat against the Sultan of Delhi, Ibrahim Lodi, thereby laying the foundation for the Mughal Empire in India. This battle marked the beginning of Mughal rule in the Indian subcontinent, which would last for over three centuries.

Babur was not only a skilled military strategist but also a cultured ruler who promoted art, literature, and architecture. He authored a famous memoir, the "Baburnama," which provides a detailed account of his life, conquests, and the customs of the diverse people he encountered.

Babur passed away on December 26, 1530, in Agra, India, leaving behind a legacy as the founder of one of the most significant empires in Indian history. His descendants would go on to rule much of the Indian subcontinent until the mid-19th century, leaving a lasting impact on the region's culture, politics, and society.
