Did you know that AC Transit has three routes (yes, only three) that allow passengers to board at the rear doors? These routes are the 6, 51B and TEMPO. The purpose for this is to handle the big number of passengers getting on/off the bus quicker, and because of that, the 6 and 51B have to be using coaches that feature a clipper reader at the rear door (not for TEMPO as clipper readers are on platforms).

In fact, a lot of UC Berkeley students heavily depend on these two routes with connection between Downtown Oakland/BART and Berkeley. Operators on these two lines often have to check the rear mirror to ensure everyone paid for the fare, especially for those that got on in the back. Also because of that, AC Transit likes sending new hydrogen or electric buses on these two routes for more efficient operations!
