Описание к видео Downtown Commute - August 12, 2024: 7:30am

It always seems like the people who complain most about bike lanes are the least likely to actually ride a bike in the city. So, this video provides a POV of a bike commute from High Park to Union Station, approximately 10km, specifically making use of some new and upgraded bike lanes downtown.

I started from High Park at 7:30am and travelled southeast along Bloor Street West, Manning Ave, College Street, University Avenue and York Street. In this video you get to experience the Bloor Street bikelanes from High Park to Manning Avenue as well as the upgraded bike lanes on College Street where new cycle tracks have been installed. Then, you get to see what the University Avenue bike lanes look like, complete with the planted boulevards and lane reductions.

Overall, these new and upgraded bike facilities are excellent. They provide a safer, more comfortable place to bike in the city. You can see that complaints of conservative politicians and business owners are completely unfounded. At points in this video there are more people on bikes than people in cars. Traffic moves smoothly and there's even on-street parking maintained along most of the bike lanes.
