Guitar Tuning: E♭, Drop C#

Nothing much is said about what brand & unit model that Mosky's Deluxe Preamp pedal is cloning on what appears to be their 'official' webpage itself. 'Coz. in a handful of cases, Mosky would openly write about what was the original device they've attempted to clone through the one they've made.

But, looking at other guitar forums & as well as buyer-reviews, it was discussed that Mosky's Deluxe Preamp appears to be a clone of Paul Cochrane's earlier Tim unit. And what the reviewers seem to be talking about is the Paul C's unit which preceded his Timmy pedal. So, on face value, Mosky seems to have touched on Paul C's 'holy grail' Tim unit & tried to make a copy of it. ...or perhaps that's just what they wanted to convey through their labeling.

However, upon closer look, Paul C's earlier Tim unit also came with a 'send-return' feature which Mosky's Deluxe Preamp do not have. Plus, the 'boost' channel of Paul C's Tim unit appears to have come AFTER its 'drive' section contrary to Mosky's which appears to come prior to its drive section. Then, turning at the backplate on the other hand, it however says 'crackle okay'. Which is an obvious give-away that the Mosky's 'boost' section is instead their attempt to clone ZVEX's tongue-&-cheek SHO (super hard-on) pedal.

Apparently, all three toggle switches hardly hardly HARDLY does anything to alter my guitar's tone. I'm not sure if they're just placebo & done with 'snake oil'. But, they seem to be unable to respond well on my test-guitar which is a 'las paul' type unit. Although, one of these days, i'll eventually be trying out Mosky's Deluxe Preamp unit on both single-coiled 'strat' & 'tele' units anyway. So, we'll soon finally figure out whether those toggles are just plain placebo or not & whether do they function better on single coils or neither.

Lastly...

I've personally never had nor even heard first-hand an OG Tim unit nor an OG SHO unit as well. So, I do have no idea how close (or how far) Mosky's Deluxe Preamp unit is compared to them real ones. But, as the wise old saying goes, "if you can't appreciate the copy, then it's quite likely that you won't appreciate the original either..."

Fortunately, this channel's all about cheap pedals. Hence, the desire to seize the moment & enjoy what this thing had to offer instead - straight off the packet.

Personally speaking, the pedal's got its own character & quirks. Regardless whether those toggle switches do work or not, I personally think that the pedal still sounded great especially for its price-point of course. My only complain is that the 'boost' section would've at least had lesser grit or would've sounded a bit cleaner when its knob's dialed all the way down.

For direct monitoring from the 'cube baby', I'm using an ATH-M20X headphones by Audio Technica. However, a parallel out also directly coming from the 'cube baby' itself goes to the audio input of my phone, which is just an old Samsung J6+ unit. And, upon transferring the 'ATH' into the 'J6' for previewing, there really isn't much variance at all. BUT, soon as I've watched the file/video from my desktop, which drives a pair of Bose Companion 2 Series II monitors, the discrepancies in audio quality is fairly large. Apparently, the 'ATH' trumps the 'companions' this time around, though.

Hence, quite likely, the tone you'll be hearing from your end may not give justice to how I've heard the pedal when i had it tested through my own system.
