So we decided to try get another duckfly buzzer fishing trip in before the hatch would finish up on Corrib. Reports were that the fishing had slowed down on the upper lake but there were still some fish going. On day 1 I fished with Krys who had never been to Corrib. We were once again boated by my good pal Tom Doc Sullivan. The weather had been bitterly cold and although the sun came out it was still freezing. In the morning Krys had 2 fish on the buzzer using his Mackenzie NX1 10ft rod with matching floating line. In the afternoon I had 2 takes but managed not to land either fish! Ooops.
On day 2 I went to Mask in the morning with Daithi and Tom but there was no sign of any duckfly. At lunchtime we decided to load the boat back on the trailer and shoot back over to Corrib. The first bay we tried had a massive hatch of duckfly and a few fish were moving. We both set up for buzzer fishing. Our tackle was the same - 10ft 5wt Mackenzie NX1 rods with matching floating lines and long leaders of .20 Fulling Mill masterclass tippet, 3 buzzers.

Soon I was into a cracking wild brown trout of 48cm. Then we had some persistent torrential rain for a while and did not fish, just waited it out in the shelter of an island. When the rain started to ease we moved the boat back out into the bay. Shortly after Daithi was into a very aerobatic fish. The fish was really silver as it pitched into the air several times. After a strong fight the fish was landed. Tom measured the fish and took some scale samples before we released it.

In the evening the temperature dropped and we decided to head home early as we had a long drive ahead.
