Williamsburg Place Lecture Series

The Farley Center and The Pavilion host monthly professional workshops for area providers. These cutting edge presentations feature information on addiction, ethics, dual diagnosis, co-dependency, military and addiction, eating disorders, assessment, and process disorders. Workshops are held on the 4th Friday of each month from 9:00 am -11:00 am on the campus of Williamsburg Place.

OVERVIEW
This presentation provides non-judgmental insight into the hyper-sexuality/sexual addiction diagnosis and its relationship to early attachment trauma(s) and problems with adult intimacy and sexuality. It provides a diagnostic overview, review of common addictive sexual acting out behaviors and frequently presenting negative life consequences including drug and alcohol addiction relapse. The influence of internet based sex and porn on sexual addiction will be discussed. Attendees will receive a high level overview of the pending DSM 5 hyper-sexuality diagnosis, differential diagnosis and an understanding of sexual addiction as a “process addiction.” Clear direction will be offered toward directing clients and their spouse toward self/relationship healing and sexual sobriety, useful reading and referral information.

Provide and define current definition for hyper-sexual disorder/sexual addiction as proposed for the DSM 5 and describe three characteristic symptoms of the disorder.

Identify two of the possible origins of sexually addictive behavior and define “sexual sobriety.”

Identify three basic referral resources and information including: Self-help groups, review of the 12 step programs, online resources and useful articles and books.

Attendees will gain insight into the psycho-dynamics of the non-addicted spouse and list three possible coping strategies at disclosure/discovery.

Discuss two shock/trauma reactions of the non-addicted spouse related to discovery of infidelity and interventions for containment.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Robert Weiss LCSW, CSAT-S is Director of Intimacy and Sexual Disorders Programs for Elements Behavioral Health, whose programs include – The Ranch in Nunnelly Tennessee, Promises Treatent Centers & The Sexual Recovery Institute in California, which Rob founded in 1995. A UCLA MSW graduate and personal trainee of Dr. Patrick Carnes, Mr. Weiss is author of Cruise Control Understanding Sex Addiction in Gay Men and co-author of both Untangling the Web and Cybersex Exposed with Dr. Jennifer Schneider. A media expert to CNN, The Oprah Winfrey Show, the NY Times, LA Times and the Today Show among many others, Mr. Weiss also provides professional sexual addiction training and program development for the US military and multi-addiction treatment centers around the United States, Europe and Asia.
