The third part of Bob’s stories relate to trips with two totally different classes of locomotive; the first being with a U class No. 31803 working a heavy Van train from Waterloo to Eastleigh and the second with Original Battle of Britain Class No. 34066 'Spitfire' working an early morning paper train from Waterloo - Eastleigh.
However, the second story has a slight twist as the paper train they were working was diverted via the Mid-Hants line because the Bournemouth Electrification engineering program on the main line was still in progress at the time.
