INSTRUMENT OF THE WEEK: MAYO SCISSORS

Описание к видео INSTRUMENT OF THE WEEK: MAYO SCISSORS

Here is the instrument of the week, the MAO SCISSOR. Otherwise known as "heavy scissors" or even just "suture scissors."

The straight version of this scissor type is almost exclusively used to cut suture, but there are some exceptions. The curved scissors, often referred to as the "heavy scissors" during surgery, are primarily used to cut through heavy tissue that a more fine scissor like the "Metz" cannot cut through. They are purposefully blunt as to not do damage to other surrounding vessels or structures. However, the blunt-nose is hard to see around, so typically it wouldn't be used for fine dissection because you cant see the smaller structures around it.
