Wrestling up from a Seated Guard vs. A Standing Opponent

Wrestle ups are essentially common takedowns that are entered from guard situations. They span a variety of different guards and attacks. This lesson will focus on shooting takedowns, double legs, single legs, arm drags, collar drags, body locks, and more from the seated guard when your opponent is on their feet.

It is highly recommended that you supplement this video with our lesson on Seated Guard Retention:

   • Seated Guard Retention. No Gi and Gi....

1️⃣Part one will begin with the Double Leg. We will use basic wrist gripping and manipulating your partner's stance to set up this attack.

2️⃣Part two adds the Single Leg. The 2 on 1 grip will address the common theme of your partner making distance and / or staggering their stance. This makes Single Legs a favorable attack.

3️⃣Part three forms the game plan of attacking either leg for a potential Single Leg. This typically happens when our opponent evades this previous attack by stepping back.

4️⃣Part four shifts to the Arm Drag. This can be used as a first attack. It's particularly useful when our partner's legs are too far away to grab. This also introduces our third position: the body lock.

5️⃣Part five revisits the Single Leg when our partner is too far away to make any grips. We will exploit the fact that they eventually have to step forward to pass guard, which will once again set up a single leg entry. An alternate finish will be provided in this section.
