Penn State vs. Tennessee 1993 GAME STORY (Citrus Bowl)

Описание к видео Penn State vs. Tennessee 1993 GAME STORY (Citrus Bowl)

To culminate the inaugural Big Ten season in Penn State football history, the Nittany Lions capped the fine 1993 season with a decisive victory over a good SEC team in the Citrus Bowl. The Lions got off to a slow start falling behind 10-0 on the scoreboard early, as for whatever reason, they were the heavy underdogs heading into the bowl game. Rising quarterback Kerry Collins found traction by targeting his best receiver Bobby Engram often. And if it weren't for Collins being just missing on a few bombs, this score could have been even more lopsided than the 31-13 final in the Lion's favor. After the first quarter, Tennessee started dropping passes which was almost reminiscent of the 1987 Fiesta Bowl against Miami. The Vols' quarterback was Heath Shuler, who finished 2nd in the Heisman voting in 1993. With the defense stepping up, and the offense keeping up the pressure with good field position, Penn State proved its value once again in a Joe Paterno coached post-season bowl game.

Penn State's Top Performers:

Kerry Collins: 15-24, 162 yards, 2 TD, Int.
Bobby Engram: 7 receptions, 109 yards, TD .. 35 rushing yards
Ki-Jana Carter: 76 rushing yards, 2 TDs

Penn State finished 1993 with a 10-2 record and an 8th place ranking in the final AP Poll. The Lions also finished 3rd in the Big Ten standings. Tennessee, however, had a 9-2-1 record in the SEC and ended up ranked 12th nationally by season's end.
