Much loved welfare schemes can’t just survive by being popular | The Federal

While the DMK has made it clear that it wants to continue Amma Canteens, their fate is hanging in the balance. Chennai has over 400 Amma Canteens. According to UN-India, there are nearly 195 million undernourished people in India. And subsidised canteens can help India address this issue. While such schemes are well received, popular and much needed in India, unless funds are allocated, their sustenance is going to be hard.
