How can cultural humility help patients? A lived experience with Geoff Schumann

Описание к видео How can cultural humility help patients? A lived experience with Geoff Schumann

Cultural humility enables us to interact effectively with people whose values, beliefs or behaviours are different from our own. Geoff Schumann is a person living with Type 2 diabetes who knows first hand just how important cultural humility is from the perspective of the patient.

In this video Geoff explains how Type 2 diabetes has affected his life and how healthcare professionals have left a lasting impact on his diabetes care. Geoff also outlines ways that healthcare professionals can have a better understanding of his culture even if they do not share the same culture.

Geoff Schumann is an actor and comedian who suddenly fell ill during a radio broadcast. Soon after he was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. Admittedly poorly controlled at first, he met a healthcare professional who understood his culture and made a lasting positive impact on his diabetes care.
