With the new generation of test machines and equipment for turbochargers, it is possible to perform even more precise tests to ensure the quality of the repair and the correct settings of your turbocharger. Depending on the type of the turbocharger, the test compares the performance with that of a new turbine from the database installed in the machine’s software. We first check the balance of the turbocharger core to make sure the vibration of core assembly level is within the required norm. This is followed by precise adjustment of the electronic or mechanical actuator controlling the variable geometry or Wastegate. The test is performed in closed, open and semi-open positions. The test measures the amount of air mass flowing through the turbine wheel per unit time. The operation of the actuator position sensor, if available, is also checked. In the next test, the pressure ratio of the outlet to the inlet flow of the air mass in the compressor section of the turbocharger is measured. Finally, a compessor section volume flow measurement can be performed throughout the given operating range. The obtained operating results are compared with the results of a brand new factory-set turbocharger. During the entire test the turbocharger is monitored for oil leakage, and upon the occurrence of such, it is promptly removed and again tested.
