Unfortunately, I fear this kind of sentiment is all too common.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t be encouraging others to get in physical movement. Too many adults are not getting in regular exercise, so we should absolutely strive to be changing this.

What I am saying is we should address the default attitude towards bigger people, which tends to be one of disdain and condescension, and stop conflating weight loss with health.

There are some days I don’t near 7500 steps a day. And yet, not a single person in my life has shamed me for not getting in more movement. It would be a different story if I weren’t straight sized (referring to not being plus sized).

There are leaner people who are extremely unhealthy.
There are bigger people who are healthier than thinner people.

We need to stop assuming that being fat means that you’re automatically lazy or you don’t exercise enough. It’s possible to be hard working and practice lots of healthy habits while still being bigger in size.

End the weight stigma.
