Nationals MP David Gillespie says the Australian government “needs" nuclear energy.

This follows concerns regarding Labor's insistence on renewable energy over nuclear power.

“We need nuclear,” Mr Gillespie told Sky News Australia.

“It is a proven technology, it’s clean and in the places that deploy it at scale – they have the cheapest electricity.

“If the green machine thinks that the carbon footprint is the most important thing for an energy system, nuclear wins by a country mile.

“The rest of the world’s worked that out.”
