The Best Ever Fish Curry | Simple & Easy Fish Curry Village Style | Spicy Fish Gravy Recipe Kerala Style | Kerala Fish Curry


This tangy and spicy Village Style Kerala fish curry is not only tasty but is very easy to make as well. Serve this with hot Matta rice or Tapioca (Kappa) and it is just amazing.

Ingredients :

4 nos. Mackerels (Bangda/Ayala) gutted, cleaned & each cut into 3 pieces
2 piece Garcinia Cambogia or Gambooge ( Kudumpuli or Fish Tamarind)
3 tbsp Coconut Oil
½ tsp Mustard Seeds (Rai)
½ tsp Fenugreek Seeds (Methi Seeds)
Few Curry Leaves
90 gms Shallots (chopped)
15 cloves (20 gms) Garlic (finely chopped)
1 inch (10 gms) Ginger (finely chopped)
4 nos. Green Chillies
½ tsp Turmeric Powder
½ tsp Fennel Seeds Powder (Saunf Powder)
½ tsp Black Pepper Powder (Kalimirch)
2 ½ tbsp Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder
2 tbsp Coriander Powder
4 tbsp Water
200 ml Water
½ tsp Salt (or as per taste)
Few Curry Leaves (wherever required)
1 tsp Coconut Oil

Notes:

1.I have used fresh Mackerel, you can use Sardines or any that you prefer.

2.It is best to use Earthen Pots(Chatti) for cooking them for authentic flavor. If you don't have it, then use a regular sauce pan/kadhai.

3.Gambooge (Kudampuli) is easily available online. Do not confuse them with Kokkam.

4.You can use tomatoes if Gambooge is not available.

5. Gambooge can be very sour depending upon the brand. Please test with just one piece if preparing for the first time and accordingly add 2 pieces the next time.

6. This curry tastes best after at-least an hour of cooking. It’s amazing the next day.

tbsp is tablespoon
