A little night photography with Rittreck View 5x7 and 4x5 back.

All film suffers from reciprocity failure, some more than others. Reciprocity failure is the loss of sensitivity in low light levels, the practical consequence being that at night there isn't much difference between a 2 minute exposure and a 4 minute exposure: it should be 1 stop but it's likely to be less. That means that getting started in night photography is as easy as trying a two minute exposure and seeing whether it gives enough density in the shadow areas, recognising that at night the deepest shadows have NO light reflecting from them and will always be deep black (clear film) no matter what exposure.

Once you've got the exposure in the right ball park you'll discover that each night scene is basically the same sicne street lights tend to be about the same brightness.

The bridge image shows some interesting and unexpected blotches in the dark sky area round the right top side. I'm not sure what these are, it could possibly be internal; refections from the bright car lights.

About the only other consideration with night photography on bridges is that they vibrate and move with traffic, so image sharpness can be compromised.
