泉港区原系惠北地区。1996年成立肖厝经济开发区，2000年12月28日年经国务院批准设立行政区，挂牌成立。地处东亚季风区，气候属亚热带海洋性季风气候，是著名的侨乡和台胞祖籍地之一。

Quangang District was originally from Huibei District. The Xiaocuo Economic Development Zone was established in 1996, and the administrative region was established on December 28, 2000 with the approval of the State Council. Located in the East Asian monsoon zone, it has a subtropical marine monsoon climate and is one of the famous hometowns of overseas Chinese and the ancestral home of Taiwan compatriots.
