Woh kesi kahan ki zindagi thi

Parveen Shakir's poetry, particularly her ghazals, is widely appreciated for its unique style and emotional depth. Her work stands out as she often approached themes of love, relationships, and human experiences from a distinctly feminine perspective. This perspective is relatively rare in traditional Urdu poetry, where male viewpoints have predominantly shaped romantic discourse. Shakir's voice as a woman brought an authenticity to her exploration of emotions like love, heartbreak, and longing.

Her poetry conveyed a delicate balance between sorrow and happiness, often "romancing" with these emotions through her eloquent words and vocabulary. Her first book, “Khushbu”, made an instant impact, captivating lovers of Urdu poetry with its freshness and profound insights. It reflected her ability to weave personal feelings with universal themes, creating a relatable and intimate experience for her readers. Shakir’s literary contributions continue to inspire and resonate, especially with those seeking a poetic understanding of the nuanced emotions and roles of women in relationships.

In this ghazal, the simplicity of the ghazal becomes its strength— highlighting the romantic emotions that are deeply interwoven into the poetry. By choosing to set it to music, I tried to bring out its latent emotional resonance. Sajar Nafees also contributed with her singing skill to amplifies the lyrical charm of the verse and connecting with its themes of love, longing, and recollections.
By composing this uniquely simple verse, I tried to enhance its emotive power, allowing listeners to journey into its romantic depths.

I originally composed this ghazal in the 1990s for a television music program, where it was performed by Azra Riaz. Despite my expectations, it did not receive the recognition I had hoped for at the time. In this recording, I have reimagined the musical arrangement while preserving its original structure. This version reflects my renewed vision for the piece and brings it closer to how I had always envisioned it.

I sincerely hope that you will like it.
