Clarks Summit Adventure; Front Line Road – Skyline Trail – Clark’s Grade

We had wanted to do Clark’s Summit last month, but the trail was closed. Check with the Big Bear Discovery Center before heading out to this trail to ensure the gates are open.

We started on Front Line Road – 1N04, just off the 38, to Radford Truck Trail – 2N06, to Skyline Drive Trail – 2N10, and then down Clark’s Grade – 1N54.

The San Bernardino Forest Service closes this trail in the winter. Top of the trail is smooth and easy but starts to get narrow with some decent size rocks and ruts towards the middle and 500 foot sheer drop offs. 4 wheel drive is strongly advised.

This trail runs down past the Snow Summit Ski Are and there are several off shoot trails worth exploring. There are some spectacular mountain views on this trail, but because of heavy clouds and fog, we didn’t get to enjoy them. The trail was still very spectacular and almost mystical.
