Neith was one of the oldest deities in the Egyptian pantheon, worshiped from the Predynastic period to the Greco-Roman period. She was a goddess of war, hunting, weaving, and wisdom, and was often depicted as a woman wearing the Red Crown of Lower Egypt. Her primary cult center was in the city of Sais in the Nile Delta.
As the Goddess of Creation and Weaving, she was said to reweave the world on her loom daily. In later syncretization of Egyptian myths by the Greek ruling class, she was conflated with Athena, the Greek deity of war and weaving.
She was the mother of the crocodile god Sebek. Consequently, Neith was sometimes depicted as a woman nursing a baby crocodile, earning her the title "Nurse of Crocodiles."
Many Hymns and Prayers dedicated to Neith have been found on papyri celebrating her as a goddess of war and wisdom.
