Iloilo has one of the best public transportation systems in the Philippines, and we used this to explore the southern towns of Iloilo.
From Iloilo City, we took a jeepney to Miagao to visit its Santo Tomas de Villanueva Parish Church, one of the 4 churches included in the Baroque Churches of the Philippines under the UNESCO World Heritage sites. While in Miagao, we also discovered several trees at the plaza that became home of thousands of fruit bats, and an old Spanish Bridge.
In Guimbal, we discovered a steel bridge built in 1932, considered as the longest in Western Visayas, several baluartes, the Parish Church of San Nicolas de Tolentino, and the infamous vanishing mansion of Guimbal.
In Tigbauan, we visited the St. John de Sagahun Church, and in Arevalo, we visited the Santo Nino de Arevalo Parish Church.
Our last stop was in Molo, where we visited the Santa Ana Parish Church, Molo's sprawling plaza, and the well-preserved Molo Mansion.
We capped our Iloilo heritage tour with the Mang Inasal in Molo, the very same city where this fastfood chain started.
