The STEEL HAZE "rose" to *this*? This gameplay showcase will give you an idea of how the preset AC STEEL HAZE ORTUS plays in Armored Core VI, at least in PvE, through a mixture of missions and Arena battles.

The STEEL HAZE ORTUS is the Armored Core of Rusty, a warrior of the Rubicon Liberation Front. Having gone undercover in the Vespers, the Arquebus Corporation's elite AC squad, Rusty has emerged to take command of an AC built specifically for him by an alliance of Rubiconian forces. The STEEL HAZE ORTUS represents the RLFs last chance for a free Rubicon and their absolute faith in the skills of its pilot. Rusty himself believes he is the only who can fly high enough to clear the dark clouds from Rubicon's skies. But there may be another...

51-101 R is a secret program developed by ALLMIND to research the capabilities of the STEEL HAZE ORTUS and its only known pilot: Rusty. The RLF and their "symbiosis" with the Coral represents a threat to ALLMIND's Release Project, and so measures must be taken to ensure their failure.

The preset AC STEEL HAZE ORTUS shown in the video is unlocked by defeating δ-1 51-101 R in the Analysis Arena, available from your third playthrough onwards, having completed both previous endings. -

Rusty has traded in an incredibly mobile, double-trigger, all-in build in the STEEL HAZE for a not-quite-as-mobile, single trigger, not-really-all-in-but-definitely-not-a-midrange-build STEEL HAZE ORTUS. Oh boy.

The ORTUS is a difficult mech to evaluate. The HUXLEY bullet orbit pales in comparison to its ALLMIND cousin, lacking both staying power and ammo. Speaking of poor ammo, the VIENTO needs another buff; the small magazine is its biggest weakness. Both it and the TRUENO needle missile have difficulty finding their targets - this is likely because of the risky choice of ABBOT FCS, forcing you to fight up close.

But going toe-to-toe with other ACs or bosses is liable to get you wrecked quickly; this is a lightweight AC with light defences. Thus the way to play the STEEL HAZE ORTUS is to play at close-range, but not close enough that you're clashing blades. By doing this, you can take full advantage of the high stagger potential of your weapons, before closing in with the laser slicer on a staggered enemy (which is now weaker than before due to the ALBA arms worse Melee Spec. compared to the NACHTREIHER). As you no longer have Assault Armor, a quick retreat is necessary after finishing your combo.

Thus the STEEL HAZE ORTUS is a difficult mech to play correctly, which is made more disappointing by the fact that the original STEEL HAZE is just much better and easier to play, in my opinion. A very hesitant recommendation: this isn't a bad AC, but it will take a pilot of Rusty's calibre to unlock its true potential.

| This is by no means a "guide" to show you how to play the AC; I'm sure there are far better players than me who can do more with these mechs. I just want to show off some cool mechs in the style of @bansheent-d Armored Core For Answer videos.

| Recorded on PS5. Played on Patch 1.04. (NOTE: In order to see a preset AC in the Assembly or Paint tabs of the garage: make sure to first enter the Paint tab, saying "Yes" to removing the edit lock. Then back out of the Paint tab, making sure to "Discard" changes and not save. Now, re-enter the Paint tab and you can see the exact colours of the preset AC! (however, decals will not transfer over.))
