Pottery Decoration in Archaeology

Описание к видео Pottery Decoration in Archaeology

Decorated pottery has always been of great interest to archaeologists, whether for archaeological chronologies or to make inferences about ethnicity, identity and other aspects of past societies. This video introduces some of the main methods for decorating pottery - slipping, painting, incising, impressing, and others - as well as some of the archaeological approaches that are relevant to the analysis of decorated pottery. These include Sackett's isochrestic style, Wiesners' emblematic and assertive styles, "ceramic sociology" of the type that William Longacre pioneered, structuralism, and narratives. The video draws on examples from Egypt, Greece, China, Sweden, Jordan, the U.S., and elsewhere.
