Exploring the Madison Nightclub, Middlesbrough. Cleveland Centre. Middlesbrough Memories

Описание к видео Exploring the Madison Nightclub, Middlesbrough. Cleveland Centre. Middlesbrough Memories

In this video I pay a visit to the old Madison Nightclub in Middlesbrough.

Located above some retail units inside the Cleveland Centre on Corporation Road, the club operated from 1974 to 2000.

Originally opened by Taz Lesuire it was sold at the end of the 1980's to Granada Lesuire (who also bought Billy Pauls).

It was THE place to go for those enjoying 'a night out on the town' for many years, providing food, drink, an ample dancefloor and a stage for many artisits who performed there during its years as a club. It was also host to regular DJ's and was a hot spot for stars from TV shows of the period such as Emmerdale and East Enders.

After closing its doors for the final time in May of 2000, it was eventaully swallowed up into the Barclays Bank Development which now occupies that entire corner of the Cleveland Centre.

It was assumed that the space in it's entirety was now part of the bank until rumours began to circulate that some of the space still remained and was accessable through the bank. Photos also surfaced that backed up the story and many Middlesbrough residents of a certain age began to take an interest, wondering if indeed, the remains of the club were still there?

I joined Craig Weatherall from the Cleveland Centre team to have a look around and to see what indeed does remain of 'The Mad House' as it was affectionatley known.........

THANKS:

Thanks must go to Craig Weatherall for taking the time to show me around and to my good friend Michelle Lonsdale who was kind enough to share some of her photos with me.

Photo credits also go to The Cleveland Centre Archive, to Craig himself and to Teesside Live (all photo details in the end credits).

And as always, thanks to my good mate James at James Stubbs Photography for his ongoing help and support. https://www.instagram.com/jamesstubbs...
