Exploring the old George unit. Cleveland Centre. Middlesbrough Memories. Un-seen Archive Footage!

Описание к видео Exploring the old George unit. Cleveland Centre. Middlesbrough Memories. Un-seen Archive Footage!

In this video I take a look at the old George unit located in the Cleveland Centre.

Originally an 'indoor market stall' type space when the centre was constructed, it was adapted into an events space in 1986. This space was used for commuity events, art exhibitions, information stalls, Christmas displays, musical performances and even fashion shows! The space was surrounded by retail units and suspended from the celing above hung the majestic Endeavour ship (a scale replica of course).

The space was adapted once again in 2005 into large retail units (much the fasion at the time) and the space once home to the Endeavour, was occupied by George (the clothing arm of Asda in the Uk).

Sadly, George traded from the unit for a short period of only 4 years before vacating it in 2009. Due to an existing lease on the unit (till 2021) it has remained vacant ever since.

What remains inside the unit? And where did all that space come from?

THANKS:

Thanks must go to Craig Weatherall for taking the time to show me around and for provinding me with the archive footage he recorded of the space prior to its development way back in 2005.

Thanks also to the security team at Praxis for allowing me to record various video and still footage around the centre.

Thanks also to my good mate James Stubbs at James Stubbs Photography for his ongoing help and support.
