KUNG LAO PLAYTHROUGH

Kung Lao is one of the new characters introduced in Mortal Kombat II. Like Liu Kang, he is a monk, but his fighting style is quite unique. His hat has sharp edges and is often thrown, only to be regenerated over his head in a few seconds.

Kung Lao has many moves that can be chained together. In a certain way, he can be considered broken, because he can deal as much as 60% of damage before the opponent can do anything. His projectile is his own hat, being thrown relatively fast toward his opponent. He can also teleport by jumping up the screen and reappearing on the other side of his opponent. Perhaps is most infamous move, his Whirlwind Spin uppercut his opponent. However, there is no delay and Kung Lao can immediately follow up with jump kick, Diving Kick (which are often intentionally missed in order to relaunch the opponent. The only catch is that the CPU is quite adept to avoid the move, because there is no hit collision after the move has been performed for more than a second. In the Genesis version, Kung Lao’s jump kick followed by his dive kick will be highly effective.

As a side note, Kung Lao’s Whirlwind Spin and Diving Kick are special moves in the game that a CPU would never do.
