Seated knee flexion and extension. In this example, the operative leg is the patient's right leg. Sitting upright with your thighs supported in a chair, bend your operative knee as far back as possible and hold for ten seconds. Strengthen your operative knee as far as possible and hold for five to ten seconds then relax. In general, this exercise will help to strengthen your knee and thigh muscles, and it will help you regain range of motion in your knee. By your two-week follow-up appointment, you should be able to fully straighten your leg and bend it at least 90 degrees. Work up to five reps, two to three times per day. Do this exercise with each leg. Don't hold your breath while doing this exercise.
