Cannabis Landrace Strain Explained

Landrace = Original Strains
A landrace marijuana strain is considered to be one of the original strains, that can date back to the 1960’s and earlier.



Landrace Strain Isolation
Sativa landrace strains moved across the globe
Indica landraces were isolated in the arid, mountainous regions around Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Not until the late 1970s were these strains breed together.

Breeding Process
The breeding and selection process was able to slowly remove unwanted characteristics while retaining the desired traits to be expressed more consistently.
Key traits breed for then are still the focus of many growers today

This has resulted in the majority of the current plants being a mixture of the original landrace strains to create hybrids.



Landraces the Heirlooms of Cannabis
Landrace strains from the 1960’s are not grown on a large scale today.
However, there are some purist that keep the strains alive and in the current genetic pool of the plant population.
