BRIEF HISTORY OF CALICO:
Located near Barstow, California, Calico was once a bustling silver mining town in the 1880s. Named after its vibrant, calico-like mountains, this town sprang to life after the discovery of silver in the area and the opening of the now-famous Silver King Mine—the largest silver-producing mine in California at the time.

But Calico wasn’t just about mining! By 1882, it was a thriving community with its own post office, a weekly newspaper, hotels, general stores, restaurants, and even a school district. It was a town for everyone—miners, families, law enforcement, professionals, and more. Calico even had its own Wells Fargo office and communication services to keep the town connected.

Today, Calico stands as a preserved ghost town, inviting explorers and history buffs to walk the same paths where silver miners once roamed. Restored by Walter Knott of Knott's Berry Farm, it's a place in San Bernardino County where you're bound to feel the echoes of history around every corner.
