Steam on the Palo Verde & Southwestern RR

This is by far and away the longest video we have ever posted on YouTube! And since we uploaded this 40 minute video as a 1080 HD file, it took 26 hours to download. Wow!

We hope that even though this is a very long video, it will still be entertaining and fun to watch. We wanted everyone to experience all six Steam Locomotives in the same video so everyone could see just how incredible these G scale locomotives really are! And they are truly amazing!

Please be aware that these are just some of the Steam Locomotives that run on our layout each year. As you can see, just six locomotives consumed 40 minutes of video. Making this video any longer would have probably put people to sleep! So we thought about doing another video down the road that will showcase the remaining Steam Locomotives that we run on this layout.

Most of the scenes in this video were shot using a GoPro Hero 3 (black) and Sony’s new AS100V video cameras. I was really surprised at the quality of the AS100V. It was every bit as good as my GoPro, but cheaper and had a longer lasting battery life than the GoPro we used. Great job on this camera Sony! We were impressed.

Many of the scenes in this video where shot during the past year or so. And as you can see, the quality was excellent! But we also mixed in scenes that were shot during an Open House we sponsored three years ago as a charity event for a very good friend of ours who was diagnosed with Cancer. The one day event was very successful! Lots of people came to see the layout, eat great food, hear a great band, and contribute to a great cause. The event raised $8,000 for our friend to help offset the rising doctor and hospital bills that the family was incurring.

Those Open House scenes were shot by a friend of mine who had a Canon 5D Mark III camera, which is a picture camera with video capabilities. He works in a video production company, so we thought he would be the perfect person to help us out with documenting this event. The video quality wasn’t as good as I would of liked, but he did it for free, so we couldn’t complain too much.
