Polymer Science and Processing 08: polymer characterization

Описание к видео Polymer Science and Processing 08: polymer characterization

Lecture by Nicolas Vogel. This course is an introduction to polymer science and provides a broad overview over various aspects of polymers, from synthetic methods, via polymer physics and materials properties to processing into products. The overarching aim of the course is to connect molecular properties and chain architecutres of polymers with resulting macroscopic properties.

This chapter focusses on different ways to characterize polymers. We first discuss strategies to measure the molecular weight, including osmometry and light scattering as absolute methods, and gel permeation chromatography as a relative method. We then discuss spectroscopic methods to analyze the chemical composition of a polymer. Methods to characterize typical bulk properties such as crystallinity, thermal and mechanical behavior will be discussed in the following lecture.
