Why I Don't Think Quaker Parrots Make Good Beginner Parrots

Описание к видео Why I Don't Think Quaker Parrots Make Good Beginner Parrots

BirbSquad! Lets talk why I don't think quaker parrots make a good parrot for beginners. Although I love my quaker Popples to infinity... there are a few reasons why their personality and demeanor may not match well with a beginner parrot owner. So here are my thoughts...

Quaker parrots in general have introverted personalities. They are not known for being this ultra super social species like you see with my green cheek conure. Although they can have the potential to talk, they don't fit the typical stereotype of the word 'parrots'. They usually have this tight hard to get into inner circle of other parrots and humans they trust. Everyone outside of that isn't really a friend of Quaker Parrots. So if you are a family (especially with small children) who are wanting to interact and be a part of this parrot's life, perhaps a Quaker Parrot isn't the best choice.

Quaker Parrots are also loud, territorial, and destructive. Although yes, my Quaker Parrot generally isn't loud as a whole. Popples chatters a lot throughout the day however its his calling calls that really make him considered loud. Whenever he is looking for his inner circle (Yoshi my green cheek conure and I) he will do a loud squawk trying to locate us. So this is something to consider if you live in an apartment or if you are sensitive to loud noises.

Quaker Parrots are chewers. You will definitely need plenty of foraging toys, shredders, and other toys that will stimulate and occupy your Quaker Parrot in hopes to distract him from other household items. Although this may seem like a simple solution, parrots in general may fixate their mind on a certain object that they want to chew on and will go non stop until its destroyed. This is something many would consider an issue and for beginner parrot owners, may be overwhelming and may not know how to handle the situation.

Quaker Parrots are also territorial over food, toys, and their inner circle. If you in the future know that someday you will want another bird, this may cause some issues during introduction. It may be difficult introducing a new parrot to another that has already claimed the house as his territory. Again, can be overwhelming and frustrating for someone that is new to the parrot world.

These are just a few of my concerns and why I think Quaker Parrots do not make good beginner parrots. However, please keep in mind that I have spoken to kids with their first bird as a quaker, I have spoken to families with small children whos first bird was a quaker parrot (including myself), and everything is going really good with them and they absolutely adore their quaker. Just want to give beginners a heads up on some potential issues.

Please Remember that all of these 'issues' can be taken care of and you can raise them to be amazing sweet birds. Just takes some learning and understanding of their species. If you need any help, the #birbsquad and I got you!!!!
