Three fleet aircraft carriers - HMS Indomitable, Victorious and Eagle - pitted their Sea Hurricane, Fulmar and Martlet fighters against more than 300 German and Italian fighters and bombers in an epic struggle to force 14 precious cargo ships - including the tanker Ohio - through to Valetta.
