Kuthur Village Council organized and celebrated Medümnyo festival of the Yimkhiung on 8th August at Kuthur village in Tuensang with H Zungkum Chang, Ex Candidate and Central Executive Committee member, NDPP, Nagaland as the special guest.
Congratulating on the grand celebration of the festival and reception the special guest applauded the efforts of all the people involved in the preparation to make it a success.
In his speech, he emphasized on building friendship and unity as the significance of the festival. He also made note of the presence of elderly people in the village who have paved the way for the younger generation by passing down the torch of the cultural values.
“It is because of them we are able to celebrate our festivals significantly,” he stated.
There are 15 elderly people in the village between age 90 to 100 and he acknowledged them by calling each of their names.
“Festival is a time to remember the sacrifices, good things our ancestors have done or us and because of these important reasons, we could still celebrate the festivals and enjoy the color of life. It bears the message of goodwill.”
“Festivals are the biggest tool of unity. In these modern times, there is road connection between villages and because of that we build relationships between villages. There is unity between villages, friends and family. As a mark of this festival, we must keep this spirit of love and unity always alive. Then only there will be peace and happiness among neighboring villages” he expressed.
Zungkum also encouraged the youths to make use of their skills and be self-reliant.
“There are so many historical places and stories from our places which we need to explore and invite influences from outside,” he said.
Speaking on the indifferences between Nagas he stated that, “We are in a state which is very delicate and we are living on the edge fearing that we might fall off it soon. There is a virus among us which is more dangerous than COVID which we cannot prevent even wearing protective masks and PPE kits and that is division, division among Naga brothers. Just like the divide and rule policy which the Britishers left for India after the independence, it is lingering within us and because of that there is no peace among different villages, society, family, brothers.”
“Let us not grow hatred within our hearts. Our hearts are clean, so let’s sow the seeds of peace among us in our family, village and friends. Let us show the way of peace and unity,” he expressed.
The event was chaired by Lily and C H Amongba while invocation was spoken by Y Mongchim George, Pastor, Kuthur Baptist Borü.
