Melbourne Spider crabs are famous for forming large aggregations. Little is know of their courtship and or breeding behaviour.
It is commonly believed that pairs mate after one of the aggregations in June. The June aggregation leads to a mass moulting event and then according to written research(mostly of other species) crabs select a partner and mate.
